The day my system stopped crying wolf.

Same report, every morning

Seven low-severity issues. Every single day. Tag inconsistencies, minor structural gaps — the kind of things the autonomous curator was already fixing on its hourly cycle. But the auditor didn’t know that. It ran its check, found a discrepancy, reported it. An hour later the curator cleaned it up. Next morning, new instance of the same pattern, new alert. Repeat.

After two weeks of this, the reports had become background noise. That’s the dangerous part — not the noise itself, but what it does to the escalation signal. When a channel always says the same thing, you stop trusting it. If something genuinely new had appeared in that list, it would have been buried under six familiar items.

The easy fix is the wrong one

The obvious move is suppression: add exceptions for known issues, filter them out of the report. But that’s a patch, and patches accumulate. Six months later you have a list of 30 exceptions and nobody remembers why half of them exist. We try to follow a different principle with this self-healing system: every recurring failure should become a prevention rule. The system should stop producing the condition, not just stop reporting it.

What we actually did

We gave the auditor access to the curator’s resolution log. If an issue was detected and the curator already handled it in the same cycle, it gets logged internally but doesn’t escalate. The auditor now knows the difference between “broken and unattended” and “broken and already fixed.”

The daily report dropped to zero noise. Now when something appears, it means the autonomous curator couldn’t handle it on its own — and that’s the only time I need to see it.
